  • Karin Michalski works as artist, filmmaker and film- and video art curator and lecturer in Berlin. She studied Film Directing and Production (creative producing) at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb) as well as Journalism, Political and Educational Science at the Universities in Mainz and Berlin. With her films and videos such as The Alphabet of Feeling Bad (14 min., 2014, text-based video projection), The Alphabet of Feeling Bad (12 min., 2012), working on it (50 min., 2008, Co-Director: Sabian Baumann), Monika M. (15 min., 2004), Pashke and Sofia (30 min., 2003) and women videoletters - a second text on war and globalization (80 min., 2004, International group video project) she has been invited to numerous festivals and exhibitions.

    Since 2001 she has been organising the queer-feminist Film and Video Art Program series clipclub (in collaboration with Renate Lorenz and Brigitta Kuster) and she works as Film and Video Art Curator, creating programs for art institutions, festivals and conferences. In 2016 she edited the artist edition An Unhappy Archive (together with Sabian Baumann) at Edition Fink, Zurich, in 2015 the book I is for Impasse. Affektive Queerverbindungen in Theorie_Aktivismus_Kunst which was released at bbooks, Berlin (a collaboration with Ulrike Klöppel, Katrin Köppert, Käthe von Bose, Pat Treusch) as well as in 2011 the fanzine FEELING BAD - queer pleasures, art & politics with contributions by Ann Cvetkovich, Renate Lorenz, K8 Hardy, Sabian Baumann and Dafne Boggeri (the title refers to Ann Cvetkovich’ term „feeling bad“ in: An Archive of Feelings, Trauma, Sexuality, and Lesbian Public Cultures, Duke University Press, 2003).

    She works as lecturer at art academies and universities. 2015-2018 she was interim professor for art and media studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM).

    Karin Michalski arbeitet als Künstlerin, Film- und Videokunstkuratorin und Dozentin in Berlin. Sie studierte Filmregie und -produktion (creative producing) an der Deutschen Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (dffb) sowie Publizistik, Politik- und Erziehungswissenschaft an den Universitäten in Mainz und Berlin.

    Sie war mit ihren Film- und Videoarbeiten an zahlreichen Festivals und Ausstellungen beteiligt u.a. mit The Alphabet of Feeling Bad (14 min., 2014, Video-Text-Projektion), The Alphabet of Feeling Bad (12 min., 2012), working on it (50 min., 2008, CH/D, Co-Regie: Sabian Baumann), Monika M. (20 min., 2004), Pashke und Sofia (30 min., 2003) und women videoletters - a second text on war and globalization (80 min., 2004, internationale Gruppenvideoarbeit). Seit 2001 organisiert sie die queer-feministische Film- und Video-Kunst Programm-Reihe clipclub (u.a. in Zusammenarbeit mit Renate Lorenz und Brigitta Kuster) und arbeitet als Film- und Videokunstkuratorin für Kunstinstitutionen, Festivals und Konferenzen.

    2016 gab sie die Künstler-Edition An Unhappy Archive bei Edition Fink, Zürich heraus (in Kollaboration mit Sabian Baumann), 2015 das Buch I is for Impasse. Affektive Queerverbindungen in Theorie_Aktivismus_Kunst bei bbooks, Berlin (eine Kollaboration mit Ulrike Klöppel, Katrin Köppert, Käthe von Bose, Pat Treusch) sowie 2011 das Kunst-Fanzine FEELING BAD – queer pleasures, art & politics mit Beiträgen von Ann Cvetkovich, Renate Lorenz, K8 Hardy, Sabian Baumann und Dafne Boggeri (der Titel bezieht sich auf den Begriff ‚feeling bad’ von Ann Cvetkovich in: An Archive of Feelings,Trauma, Sexuality, and Lesbian Public Cultures, Duke University Press, 2003). Sie arbeitet als Dozentin an Kunsthochschulen und Universitäten. 2015-18 war sie Vertretungsprofessorin für Kunst- und Medienwissenschaften an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (KHM).
